Lockdown in Rome day 68

Italian restaurants rearing to open on Monday are brainstorming how to make diners feel safe. A Brazilian grilled meat place that we like near our house has a big parking lot and will serve guests in their cars if they are uncomfortable dining in — Italian-style drive-thru or maybe more like the drive-in diners of the 1950s where the waitresses wore rollerskates and brought the food to your car. Will those make a come back in this strange new world?

I have a date at an actual pizzeria on Monday night. I haven’t been outside of our neighborhood in 68 days. I’ll wear real shoes. Maybe even pants. Real pants like jeans. I haven’t worn a single pair of real pants in 68 days.

Multigrain cereal with dried mulberries for breakfast. Roasted red peppers, prosciutto, and robiola cheese piadine for lunch. Fried sage for aperitivo. Buffalo pastrami sandwiches with mustard on sweet potato buns for dinner.

Eat well. Stay safe.
