Why Italian food is the best food

I think traditional Italian food is the best food and if more people knew what it was and how to prepare it, the world would be a better place. I might be a little biased as I live in Italy and eat Italian every day, but here are 5 reasons that Italian cooking tops my list and my plate.

  1. It’s delicious. Comfort food is Italian food. Spaghetti on a cold rainy night? Your mom’s lasagna? Pizza party with your friends? It’s not a secret that the Italians are experts at deliciousness. They make incredibly simple food that wins our mouths and our hearts over and over again, which is a great place to start if you want to learn how to cook. Learn to win at deliciousness by learning to cook Italian.
  2. It’s healthy. Carbs have gotten a bad rap, but no, it’s not pasta that’s making you fat. Recent studies have shown that pasta can help you lose weight. And the Mediterranean diet has long been celebrated for its health benefits. There is a reason Italians have one of the longest life expectancies in the world. They care about what they eat.
  3. It’s affordable. A box of pasta and a jar of tomato sauce has kept countless college students alive. As with all great cuisines, Italian cooking is about making delicious food with what is available. Using in-season ingredients means using ingredients not only when they taste best, but also when they are cheapest.
  4. It’s easy. Many Italian recipes are made with five ingredients or less. Italian cooking also aims to enhance an ingredient and not to hide it which means there is no need to learn a bunch of fancy sauces or complicated flavor combos.
  5. It’s fast. Ok, not all Italian cooking is fast. There are plenty of dishes that take time, but there are also plenty that don’t. And many of the dishes that do take time, can take care of themselves. You can quickly get them in the oven or on the stovetop and then mostly ignore them until it’s time to eat.
